IGF::OT::IGF THIS STATEMENT OF WORK ADDRESSES AN EFFORT TO ADVANCE A HYDROGEN PURIFICATION SYSTEM BASED ON SORBENT-BASED ADSORPTION OF ACETYLENE AND MICROWAVE-POWERED REGENERATION BY UMPQUA RESEARCH COMPANY. THIS WORK DERIVES FROM A PHASE I SMALL BUSINESS INNOVATION RESEARCH (SBIR) (CONTRACT #NNX14CM20P) EFFORT AND IS CONSIDERED TO BE A SBIR PHASE III EFFORT. THE RESULTING SORBENT BED WILL BE USED IN NATIONAL AERONAUTICS AND SPACE ADMINISTRATION (NASA) LIFE SUPPORT ADVANCED OXYGEN RECOVERY ARCHITECTURE BASED ON STATE-OF-THE-ART SABATIER TECHNOLOGY AND THE PLASMA PYROLYSIS SYSTEM CURRENTLY IN DEVELOPMENT AT NASA MARSHALL SPACE FLIGHT CENTER. THE PHASE I SBIR EFFORT PROVED THE FEASIBILITY OF USING SORBENTS TO EXTRACT ACETYLENE AND OTHER HYDROCARBONS FROM A MIXTURE CONTAINING BULK HYDROGEN, WATER VAPOR, AND CARBON MONOXIDE. THIS EFFORT WILL PROVIDE THE HARDWARE NECESSARY TO DEMONSTRATE THE TECHNOLOGY IN AN INTEGRATED SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE.
