THE FIRST OBJECTIVE IS TO GLEAN INFORMATION ABOUT MELT PONDS FROM ICESAT-2. THIS OBJECTIVE HAS TWO PRIMARY TASKS. THE FIRST TASK IS TO EXTRACT MELT POND DATA FROM THE ICESAT-2 ATL03 DATA. TWO ALGORITHMS EXISTS FOR TRACKING MELT PONDS IN THE ATL03 PHOTON CLOUD, THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND MELT POND ALGORITHM [UMP-MPA, FARRELL ET AL., 2020, BUCKLEY ET AL., 2023] AND THE DENSITY DIMENSION ALGORITHM SEAICE-BIFURCATE [DDA, HERZFELD ET AL., 2023]. BOTH ALGORITHMS HAVE THE ABILITY TO TRACK TWO SURFACES CORRESPONDING TO THE SURFACE AND BATHYMETRY OF THE MELT POND [BUCKLEY ET AL., 2023]. .
